O-rings are the same as gaskets:
Both meet this implicit condition: when the sealing contact pressure is greater than the pressure of the sealed medium, the sealing effect is maintained;
When the sealing contact pressure is less than the pressure of the medium to be sealed, the gasket or O-ring is ejected, and a large amount of medium leakage occurs.
The difference between O-ring and gasket:
Flat gasket seals consist of gaskets, flanges and bolts, forming a complex statically indeterminate system; the contact pressure of the seal is provided by the deformation of the bolts. The contact pressure distribution when the flat gasket is working is uniform. When the medium pressure fluctuates and exceeds the contact pressure, leakage may occur.
In contrast: for the same pressure conditions, both can be matched;
However, for variable working conditions, when the pressure rises, it may exceed the contact pressure range of the gasket, and the medium may leak from the sealing gap. O-ring complete burst gasket.
In application, gaskets are only used for static sealing, and O-rings can be used for both static sealing and dynamic sealing with reciprocating linear motion.
